How To Properly Land When You Reach The Ground

When partaking in a long jump competition, it is essential to have all your techniques in order to improve your overall distance. Although a good deal of the work does go into the preparation and the jump, it is important to have a solid landing. When a judge measures how far you go, they take the last point of your body to touch the ground. Of course, you don’t want to just simply land on your feet, because you are not able to travel as far if you are aiming to land standing up. Instead, there is a different technique you want to use in order to land during the long jump.

After you have jumped, it is important to flail your arms and legs forward. This helps build some additional momentum in order to take you farther in the landing. As you come up towards the ground, you want to extend your legs forward in front if you, not under you. If you aim to stick the landing, you are reducing the amount of airtime you are catching, which in turn reduces the total distance of your jump. With your legs out in front of you, there is additional airspace for you to travel.

Allow the legs to slide into the dirt, and lean forward. This way your rear is the last spot to touch the sand. You want to lean forward because you don’t want your hands bracing your landing. If your hands land behind you then the hand markings are measured as the last position you jumped to. This is the last thing you want, and is easily avoidable. Once you have landed make sure there is a clean landing line behind you and stand up, this way you have obtained the furthest jump possible, without reducing the jump by touching behind yourself.
